“The fantastic has always been a deeply precious thing with the power to excite and teach. As a filmmaker now, I seek to channel the fantastical, letting its images and sounds tell stories that stay with us long after the credits roll.”
- Sean Kim, speaking on his personal connection to the story
Gale is an original story that follows Gran, a lonesome yet unwavering matriarch whose trust is put to the test when her isolated wartime village is inadvertently destroyed by a giant construct named Gale. Although the child-like gentle giant is frightening at first, she proves to be eager and ready to help clean up her mess. The rest is up to Gran, who must be willing to let her guard down and welcome an outsider into her community before any progress is made.
Gale is a story for those left behind when the ones they love must venture out into the world. Gran's relationship with Gale eventually reflects that of a parent, too scared to let go of a child who has changed their life forever. In that same vein, Gale is for those who have had to leave the place they call home to pursue their heart’s desire. Our story reflects just how much a supportive home can help its members grow and change.
